Steal Her Style helps girls find the clothes worn by celebrities. We focus on streetwear looks that are actually wearable for the average person and we try to post clothing that is affordable. |
The idea behind it
I never cared about the sort of celebrity looks I saw in magazines, but I was inspired by girls in bands who wore edgy and unique clothes in a casual way. I like fancy tights and combat boots because I actually wear that stuff, not formal gowns. |
The first Steps
Steal Her Style grew out of a Hayley Williams fashion website that I created back in 2007. When the Hayley website starting getting really popular I felt that I could do the same for other celebrities. |
The initial response
The growth
Steal Her Style has grown steadily from the start and continues to grow. We always see a growth spurt in the summer because a lot of our readers are out of school and also because of our coverage of the Warped Tour scene, which is totally ignored by publications that focus on high fashion. We keep growing by adding more and more celebrities to the site. |
The Status Quo
I have been self-employed for almost a year and I now have three writers working with me. Together we have made over 5,000 posts. We add new clothes about 10 times a day and we're working on a new system so that we can post about hair and makeup with the same sort of regularity. |

Always play to your own strengths. Instead of copying your competitors, figure out what you can do that they can't. |
